BomBassic is a musical duo that creates soulful, sexy vibrations that cause the body to groove and the mind to levitate. Raised on the raw sound of NY hip-hop and groomed in Asheville’s eclectic electronic music scene, they exhibit a wide range of influences. With Brucey B on the keys and HyperDrive controlling the beats, their high-energy live performance adds an incredibly soulful dimension to their sound. BomBassic’s music is always growing in different directions, looking for new ways to connect with the listener.
Originally from Long Island, NY and now based in Asheville, NC, Rob Gray (Cpt. Hyperdrive) and Bruce Bijesse (Brucey B) first met in high school and became friends through a shared love of hip hop and music in general. Bruce formed a local hip hop group, IRD, with Hyperdrive joining the project a few years later. Their chemistry was evident – Brucey B taught HyperDrive the science of production and their skills quickly progressed, pushing one another to new extremes.
When Bruce moved to Asheville in 2008, he began sending HyperDrive different types of electronic music that drastically changed the music they listened to and created. Bruce studied classical piano and achieved a degree in music tech at UNCA, while HyperDrive completed his degree in criminal justice and shortly after, an audio engineering certification. With a wealth of knowledge and the introduction of new genres, this inspired the two to form a new group; BomBassic. Born in 2011, BomBassic sought to combine years of experience in hip hop production with the limitless boundaries of electronic music and technology. Since then, they’ve cataloged a deep collection of material that continues to evolve.
Their music has been featured on Earmilk, EDM.com, EDM Sauce, Afromonk, HOFisBetter, and Sensible Reason. Lead single "Gato Negro" was released February 2016 via Street Ritual.
BomBassic’s live performances have featured all-original composed music with the added element of live keyboard performance and improv. They’ve been featured artists at Moogfest, Kinnection, SXSW and direct support for Desert Dwellers, Too Many Zooz, Michal Menert, Manic Focus, Blockhead, CloZee, Eskmo, Elliot Lip, Living Light, Psymbionic, Marley Carroll, Elaquent, Aligning Minds, and many more.
